AR200 Abrasion Resistant Steel Sheet & Plate
AR 200 steel is a lower-grade abrasion-resistant steel with a nominal hardness of 200 HBW (Brinell Hardness). This grade offers a good balance between resistance to wear and formability, making it suitable for applications where some level of abrasion resistance is needed, but the extreme hardness of higher grades like AR 450 is not necessary. AR 200 is often used in situations where the material is subjected to wear and tear, but also needs to be formed, welded, or machined with relative ease.
Common applications include parts and structures in moderate wear environments, such as conveyor systems, building components, and protective panels. Its lower hardness level makes AR 200 sheet and plate a more economical choice for applications that demand durability and resistance to wear but do not encounter the most severe abrasive conditions.
Capabilities:
Grade | Thickness | Width | Length |
AR 200 | .125” – 2” | 48” – 124” | 60” – 960” |
Advantages of AR 200
- Improved Wear Resistance: AR 200 offers enhanced durability and longevity in applications where abrasion and surface wear are concerns, reducing the need for frequent replacements.
- Good Formability: Despite its hardness, AR 200 steel can be formed and shaped more easily than higher-grade abrasion-resistant steels, making it suitable for various manufacturing processes.
- Weldability: AR 200 maintains good weldability, allowing for easier fabrication and repair of parts and structures, which is often a challenge with higher hardness materials.
- Cost-Effectiveness: It provides a cost-efficient solution for applications requiring abrasion resistance without the premium price of higher hardness steels, offering a good balance between performance and expense.
- Versatility: The steel is versatile and can be used in a wide range of moderate wear and tear environments, from construction and manufacturing to conveyor systems and protective equipment.
- Lighter Weight: Due to its lower hardness, components made from AR 200 can be lighter than those made from more abrasion-resistant materials, contributing to improved efficiency and reduced energy consumption in mobile applications.
Industries and Applications
- Truck Liners: AR 200 steel is widely used in the fabrication of truck bed liners for dump trucks and other material transport vehicles to protect against wear and tear from abrasive loads.
- Material Chutes: It is utilized in the construction of chutes and slides that guide materials in industrial processes, ensuring durability against the constant abrasion of moving parts.
- Material Moving Equipment: Components of conveyors, forklifts, and other material handling equipment are often made from AR 200 to prolong their service life in abrasive environments.
- Agricultural Machinery: AR 200 steel finds applications in parts of agricultural equipment like plows and harvesters, where resistance to soil abrasion is needed.
- Mining and Quarry Equipment: In the mining industry, AR 200 is used for protective liners and parts in machinery that processes or transports abrasive materials.
- Manufacturing Tools and Fixtures: Jigs, fixtures, and tooling components made from AR 200 help in maintaining the integrity of manufacturing equipment in abrasive conditions.
- Construction Equipment: It is used in making wear plates, buckets, and other components of construction machinery that come into frequent contact with abrasive materials.
